Once again Rosler is on the forefront of surface finishing innovation with its new Surf Finishing machine, an automated surface finishing process which is ideal for deburring, surface grinding, smoothing and polishing of delicate, high-value work pieces with complex geometries. The Surf Finisher offers several benefits, including; fully automatic processing, extremely short cycle times, high process stability, repeatability and finishing of precisely targeted surface areas.
The Surf Finisher was born out of a growing demand to improve the cost efficiency, stability and repeatability of surface finishing processes for highly valuable and complex components. Surf Finishing allows fully automatic dry or wet processing of these components, which up until this point, could only be finished with costly manual or mechanical systems.
An ideal combination of robotic handling and special media motion
Depending on the finishing application, the Surf Finisher uses either a single arm or multiple 6-axis robotic arms to lower the components into a rotating processing bowl filled with grinding or polishing media. This process can be utilized as an all-around finishing treatment of the components or as a selective treatment of targeted surface areas. The simultaneous “surfing” of the components through the grinding media, combined with the rotation of the processing bowl generates an extremely high grinding pressure. The result is a very intensive process and a perfect surface finish, in amazingly short cycle times.
Easy integration into manufacturing lines
The Surf Finisher can be easily integrated into complex, automated manufacturing lines. Multiple component processing programs can be stored in the Surf Finisher’s system controls and can be quickly retrieved by the operator. The treatment process can be augmented by material handling and other auxiliary equipment such as component transport systems and component washers.
Surf Finishing guarantees very high process stability and repeatability, therefore it is the ideal technology for single component treatment in the aerospace, automotive and medical industries, or any other industry where precise deburring, surface grinding, smoothing and polishing are essential.
